Questions and Answers
QUESTION:
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEAL REPLACEMENT AND SUPPLEMENT AND HOW DO THESE TERMS RELATE TO LIFESTYLES PRODUCTS?
A meal replacement means that the product contains enough vitamins and minerals to meet the government requirement. Our Dream Shakes meet these requirements and therefore say right on the packaging - Meal Replacement. The cookies are not meal replacements but are meal supplements.
QUESTION:
WHY CAN'T LIFESTYLES DREAM COOKIES BE USED AS "DIET" PRODUCTS IN CANADA?
LifeStyles cookies were specifically designed as high-fiber snacks. Had they been formulated as "diet" cookies (meal replacements) LifeStyles would not have been able to list the fiber content on the label due to government labelling regulations for meal replacements. This would have defeated the whole purpose of the product which is to help people increase their intake of dietary fiber with great tasting, nutritious snack food.
QUESTION:
WHAT TYPE OF FIBER DO THE COOKIES CONTAIN?
The cookies contain both soluble and insoluble fiber in almost equal proportions. Soluble fiber sources include oat bran and apple fiber. Insoluble sources include pea hull fiber and soy fiber. It is important to note that many foods contain a combination of both soluble and insoluble fiber are part of their natural make-up.
QUESTION:
HOW MUCH OF MY DAILY RECOMMENDED FIBER INTAKE IS IN A LIFESTYLES COOKIE?
Although no recommendation regarding daily fiber intake has been made by Health Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation recommend Canadians consume 25 - 30 grams of dietary fiber per day. Common intolerances include lactose intolerance (dairy products) and gluten intolerance (wheat, oats, rye). QUESTION:
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO DRINK WATER WITH EACH COOKIE?

QUESTION:
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SATURATED, UNSATURATED AND POLYUNSATURATED FAT?
The term saturation refers to the amount of hydrogen in a particular fat. Saturated fat means the fat contains the maximum amount of hydrogen. Unsaturated means there is one point in the chain where hydrogen is missing and polyunsaturated means there are two or more points where hydrogen is missing. Hydrogen is added to fats to keep them from going rancid at room temperature. An easy way to identify the different fats is to remember that the more saturated a fat, the harder it is at room temperature. Lets look at lard, chicken fat and safflower oil as examples. Lard is the most saturated (made from pork), chicken fat is less saturated, and safflower oil is the least saturated (liquid at room temperature). Most experts recommend that we try and cut back on saturated fat levels because the body converts saturated fat into cholesterol in the blood. Saturated fat also reduces the body's ability to transport cholesterol in the blood to the liver where it is broken down and eliminated. Polyunsaturated fats, on the other hand, may help lower the level of certain types of cholesterol in the blood. Try using oils such as canola, olive, safflower, and sunflower - all are low in saturated fat and high in polyunsaturated fat.

You can quite safely drink Dream Shakes as they are lactose free and contain no protein from dairy sources.
QUESTION:
HOW DO THE DREAM SHAKES HELP YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT?
Lifestyles Dream Shakes have been formulated as meal replacements to be used as part of the Lifestyles Weight Management Program. All this nutrition can be found in the Shakes and Bars with approximately 225 to 255 calories. This reduction in calories combined with proper nutritional intake as outlined in the 7 Day Menu Plan helps promote healthy weight management.

The shakes were designed to be used with water, however, if dairy is a desirable part of your diet there is no problem mixing the shakes with milk.
