Diet and Nutrition Tips

  1. Portion Control

Don't have a measuring cup, but need to know how many servings are on your plate? Here's how.

According to nutrition experts, one serving of meat, poultry, or fish is the size of a deck of cards. One serving of cheese is about the size of six dice. One serving of fruit, vegetables, cooked cereal, pasta, or rice is the size of a small fist. Eating the right amounts from each food group can help you maintain your weight and get the nutrients you need each day.

RealAge* Benefit: Maintaining your weight and body mass index at a desirable level can make your RealAge as much as 6 years younger.

Experts advise that you eat 2 to 3 servings each of meat and dairy, 3 to 5 servings of vegetables, and 6 to 11 servings of grains per day. But restaurants often offer more food per plate than a single serving. If you can't resist eating everything on your plate, pack up half to two-thirds for another meal before you start eating.
