Diet programs and products are big business. Sad but true, weight-loss diets seldom
work over the long haul. Long-term weight loss requires permanent changes
in eating and exercise habits. here are some claims mde by advertisers that should
make you particularly skeptical, according to the Federal Trade Commission.
- "Lose 30 pounds in just 30 days" (the faster you lose weight, the more
likely you'll gain it back).
- "Lose weight while you sleep" (effortless weight loss = bogus claim).
- "Jane Doe lost 80 pounds in six weeks" (even IF she did, that doesn't improve your odds).
- "Lose weight permanently" (usually baloney -- 90% regain weight lost on "diet" programs).
- "Scientific breakthrough ... medical miracle" (there are no miracle weight-loss products).
- "Guaranteed weight loss -- or your money back" (Good Luck!).
